COME, HOLY SPIRIT

Lord, help us to have contrite and humble hearts, which have burned all the bridges to wilful sin, so that You can pour out on us Your Spirit and enrich us with His gifts for the glory of the Father and for the building up of Your Church. Amen!

Day 9: Luke 1:26-38 Mary overshadowed by the Holy Spirit conceived the Savior! Holy Spirit, overshadow us!
Luke 11:9-13 It simply pleases Jesus and the Father to pour out the Holy Spirit upon us. Let us ask and knock and seek for more of the Spirit. Let us pray for His Spirit upon us during the Vigil Mass tonight.

Bend the stubborn heart and will

melt the frozen, warm and chill;

guide the steps that go astray

On the faithful who adore

And confess you evermore

In your sevenfold gift descend;

Give them virtue's sure reward;

Give them your salvation, Lord;

Give them joys that never end.

Day 8: Acts 2:1-4 PENTECOST Suddenly there was the rush of a mighty wind, from heaven... and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. By our novena we have prepared ourselves for the coming of the Spirit. Let us repent if necessary; humble ourselves by fasting, and turn to Him with a loving and surrendered heart desperate for more of His Spirit.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew,

on our dryness pour your dew;

wash the stains of guilt away.

Day 7: Luke 24:49 Jesus said he would send the "promise of the Father"... and the disciples would be clothed with "power from on high." The Holy Spirit is the Father's Promise! Ask Him now to fulfill His promise to you and your children!

Day 6: Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me..." Jesus quoting the prophet Isaiah (ch 61). Jesus depended upon the power of the Spirit in his own ministry! How much more so we, in our family, our work, our service.

Where you are not, we have naught;

nothing good in deed or thought;

nothing free from taint of ill.

Day 5: Joel 3:1-2 (NAB) or Joel 2:28-29 (RSV) This is the passage Peter quotes on the day of Pentecost. "I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh..." Yes, Lord, how we need your Spirit!

O most blessed Light divine;

shine on these hearts of yours,

and our inmost being fill!

Day 4: Ezekiel 37:1-14. The Lord's Spirit does not just make bad persons good, but dead men and women alive! Come Holy Spirit, awaken and vivify us.

In our labor, rest most sweet;

grateful coolness in the heat;

solace in the midst of woe.

Day 3: 1 Samuel 16:6-13 Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David...and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David. May your Spirit rush mightily upon us, Lord!

You, of comforters the best;

You, the soul's most welcome guest;

Day 2: Numbers 11:16-30 "Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put His spirit upon them." Yes, Lord, put your Spirit upon us, our children, our Church, our nation.

Come, Father of the poor!

Come, source of all our store!

Come within our bosoms shine.

Pentecost Novena (Christ the King)

Day 1: Genesis 1:2 In the very beginning, the Spirit of God was active in creating and forming us and God's creation. Let us invite Him to continue to form and shape us more perfectly into God's image and likeness.

Come, Holy Spirit, come!

And from your celestial home

shed a ray of light divine.

Come Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray: Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
