Prayer: Man's escape into reality.

Over this weekend as we close one month and begin a new one, take some time to review your efforts over the last few weeks. Try to recognize where God was and the many ways in which He tried to break in. Praise Him for His most wonderful deeds and thank Him for all that His will has accomplished for you.

The Scripture passages for this weekend are taken from the liturgical readings of the day.

Sat. Hebrews 11: 1,2 and 8-19
Mark 4:35-41

Sun. Mark 1:21-28

Monday we will begin to focus our efforts toward preparing our hearts for Lent. Meet us at the blog.

Getting Ready

Christmas is fast approaching. This morning at Mass Fr Ed talked about receiving gifts. The best gifts are the ones that come from someone who loves us -- and knows us well. Even if it isn't what we wanted, the love that went into the choice warms our hearts. And the gifts that are most fun to give are the ones that have been chosen specifically to delight someone we love. That must be how the Lord looks at Christmas. He has gifts to give each of us that are specially chosen to delight our hearts. To delight His heart, all we need to do is to receive them with joy.

It seems like this is a time for making room -- in the inn of our hearts. At our house, the Lord has been prompting us to literally clean out closets - making room. That's what I was hearing in prayer this morning, too. Clean out the closets. Make room for Me. Sometimes a physical task like clearing away clutter can have an effect in our spirits, too. Let's clear out a little more clutter over the next few days to make room to receive more of Jesus on His birthday -- the best gift of all.

Novena Prayer

Hail, and blessed be the hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires through the merits of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

The Immaculate Conception

All is darkness compared to the pure light that renews all creation through him whom she bore in her womb, as the dew on the rose.
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina

Novena to the Holy Spirit

"Wait for the promise of the Father...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you." Acts 1:5,6

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
